Online Premiere of Organ Concert with Nathaniel Gumbs

Music

We are excited to premiere an online organ concert titled “We Shall Overcome,” featuring Nathaniel Gumbs, Director of Chapel Music at Yale University, on Friday, July 24, at 7pm at 2pc.org/live.

The program, filmed in our Sanctuary this summer, is diverse, including works by Western European composers Sigfrid Karg-Elert and Felix Mendelssohn as well as pieces by African-American composers Florence Price, Carl Haywood, and Calvin Taylor.

The organist's diverse musical talent is built on many years of experience in church music—from his start growing up at a Baptist church in the Bronx to many part-time positions during college at Lutheran, Episcopal, and Presbyterian churches. His undergraduate study was done at the Shenandoah Conservatory in Virginia. He received a Master of Music degree from Yale University and completed a Doctor of Musical Arts degree at Eastman School of Music.
