Moving Dirt and Books...
Jun 30, 2008
The lazy days of summer are here but there is nothing lazy about the construction work taking place on campus. With that comes a few things that you need to be aware of on campus. Parking is always a premium on our campus, however the sitework for our new building requires that the far West parking lot on campus be disturbed.
This lot is being raised and reconfigured for drainage and expanded uses. In the end, increased parking will be provided for, drainage and lighting will be improved, and it will be better configured for carpool circulation. In the meantime, we will endure a summer without some of our most convenient parking. The contractor is already making significant headway and should be nearly completed by the end of the summer. During this time of heavy construction we suggest that members and guests take full advantage of the parking across Central and on Goodlett.
In addition to the sitework taking place the Growing Place is getting an uplift. The books have been temporarily stored in containers on campus and crews are already working swiftly to complete the renovations. By the end of July the new growing place will be fully spruced up and ready to meet the learning needs of the our congregation. The renovations will better utilize the space available and complete the planned changes to the B Building.
And so that is what is going on with construction, busy and hectic but lots of fun to watch as the campus change before our eyes. I enjoy construction so much because there is always a completed project to stand back and enjoy. In the midst of what is taking place on our campus with construction there is even more eternal work taking place in the lives of our members, their kids, our city, and the globe. VBS realized record numbers this year. Our children just returned from the EDGE conference. We have multiple teams traveling to the ends of the earth to serve and share the great news of Christ.
In Memphis we are continuing plans for a new church plant. With all that, it makes our little corner at Poplar and Goodlett seem small, and in those arenas the victories are often harder to see. But rest assured that Christ continues to do His good work and the battle has been won and the great work of redemption is complete.
