B & C Buildings are Finished!

Jun 05, 2008

We have great reason to celebrate! All of the renovations and additions to the B & C buildings are complete. The additional nursery rooms have opened and already being put to good use. The playground has been relocated and is open for play, and yes, I tested the slide. The communication department is in the process of transitioning into its new space. And in the next couple of weeks you will see the coffee bar open for business.

It is our fervent prayer that God uses these spaces fully and richly in the life of the congregation of 2PC. Selfishly, I have received great joy watching members meet and fellowship in our new spaces. We thank you for your exemplary patience during construction. Realizing that there is great disruption to the campus right now, we will do everything possible to minimize the impact to our congregational life at 2PC.

In an attempt to not state the obvious, there is plenty of other construction taking place on our campus. I hope that this will give you a brief outline of what has taken place and what will be taking place through the rest of the summer.

  • No, we are not building a swimming pool next to the new CPC. The City of Memphis project as you have no doubt noticed is progressing and is changing daily the face of the West end of our campus. When completed the old creek next to the well will be completely underground, allowing for sitework to begin for the new PDS Early Childhood Center. Contractors are working very hard to keep the driveway on Central open as much as possible, however please be patient if it is closed intermittently during the summer.
  • This week the old CPC was torn down. I have to admit that I am at a loss for words to convey how holistically that building has served us over the years. It was sobering to reflect upon how God has used that space and the talented staff of the CPC to bring about healing for thousands of wounded men and women over the years. It is our prayer that the bricks and mortar that take its place will have similar impacts on God's people.
  • In the coming weeks you will notice a great deal more sitework take place on campus. Earthwork for our new football field will begin shortly. Building pads and concrete will begin to go in place on the West side of the Activities Building. And lastly, the West parking lot will begin to be built up to its new completed elevation. It will no doubt be a busy summer for the construction crews preparing the site for its new additions. As these changes take place this will be the season when our parking will be most affected. We apologize in advance for any inconveniences that may arise from this and thank you for your understanding, however know that when construction in completed there will be a net gain in parking spaces.

As you can tell there is a great deal of progress being made. By the end of the summer we hope that nearly all of the sitework on campus will be complete and that you will see our new building coming out of the ground. We continue to solicit your prayers for the safety of the men and women working on our campus and that the impacts to church life can be minimized as much as possible.

Thank you and have a blessed summer!
