CityServe Sunday

All Church Event

On Sunday, August 27, come and hear about new ways we’ll seek to love our neighbors together as a church in the coming year!

  • Learn about our new focus moving forward—partnering with four local schools and serving students through Arise2Read.
  • Hear from a panel of educators during our Sunday School hour:
    • David Montague is the founder and executive director at Memphis Teacher Residency (MTR). Prior to MTR, David served for two years with Campus Crusade for Christ in East Asia, five years as the executive director of Service Over Self, and 18 years with Morgan and Keegan & Co.
    • Karen Vogelsang is the executive director of ARISE2Read. Prior to this, she taught elementary grades in inner-city Memphis for 15 years. Karen served on Governor's Haslam Teacher Cabinet and Commissioner McQueen's Teacher Advisory Council.
    • Dr. Sam Shaw is a 53-year member of 2PC where he serves as an elder, choir member and board member of the Christian Psychological Center. Sam served 43 years in public education of which the last 17 years he served as principal of Berclair Elementary School.
    • Darrell Cobbins serves as Founder and President of Universal Commercial Real Estate, LLC. He was appointed by Governor Bill Haslam in 2017 and confirmed by both houses of the TN General Assembly to represent the 9th Congressional District on the Tennessee State Board of Education, while serving on the Teacher Licensure and Preparation sub-committee.
    • Cory Jones teaches 4th grade at Berclair Elementary. He is a youth developer with over 10 years of experience working with youth at both the public and non-profit sector, including being Youth Advisor/Coordinator for the YMCA, Teacher-Counselor for Youth Villages, and graduating from the Memphis Teacher Residency in 2020
    • Donna Walker is the director of  The Safe Haven Outreach & Counseling Center. She has been working in the community for the past 30 years as a lay counselor, former curriculum designer at FedEx, and director of after school programs and summer programs.
  • Walk through information booths in the hallways to learn about other Mission Memphis partners.
  • Help us kick off our annual Food Drive! View the needed items here.

Please join us as we seek to reimagine the city together and discover ways to practically repair what is broken.
